Upgraded Safety Standards & Achievements

Following their recent evaluation, IIHS has promoted the 2024 Ioniq 5 from a Top Safety Pick to a Top Safety Pick+. This upgrade was due to the EV meeting new requirements, particularly in rear occupant safety. The Ioniq 5 excelled in the Offset Deformable Barrier (ODB 2.0) crashworthiness evaluation, which now includes rear occupant protection. Its enhanced safety features and robust construction earned it the highest possible safety rating.

Additionally, the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe and 2024 Hyundai Sonata have achieved the Top Safety Pick designation. These distinctions are a testament to Hyundai’s persistent efforts to improve the safety of its vehicles, ensuring that both new models and returning ones meet the IIHS standards.

In a bid to meet these challenges, Hyundai equipped all models with standard Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Warning, and Driver Assist Warnings.

For the Top Safety Pick+ recognition, cars must achieve good ratings in the small overlap front and updated side tests and at least an acceptable rating in the updated moderate front crash test. Both awards also require vehicles to have pedestrian crash prevention and headlights rated acceptable or good for all trim levels.
